Dr. Umidjon Shayusupov
Endocrinologist, surgeon
My name is Umidjon Shayusupov. I am an endocrinologist and surgeon with 17 years of experience. I work at LEVELMED clinic in Tashkent.
I do what most doctors consider impossible: I help patients with type 2 diabetes reach remission — a state in which blood sugar returns to normal without pills. I also treat testosterone deficiency in men, obesity and metabolic syndrome.
But I don't just treat — I explain. In the language of real research, not folk advice. Because I am convinced that a patient who understands how their disease works does better than one who simply takes the pills they were prescribed.
2008
Graduated from the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, followed by a residency in endocrinology.
2010–2017
Worked in the diabetic foot department of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Endocrinology — the leading endocrinology institution in Uzbekistan. There I saw what uncontrolled diabetes leads to: amputations, blindness, kidney failure.
That is where I realized that most of these complications could have been prevented. If only the patient had known. If only the doctor had explained.
2017
Specialized in general surgery and became chief physician of the Bukhara Endocrinology Dispensary.
Since 2019
Seeing patients at LEVELMED clinic in Tashkent.
Type 2 diabetes remission
When a patient with type 2 diabetes comes to me, the first thing I tell them is: this is not a life sentence. According to large clinical studies, 40–50% of patients can reach remission — HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin) below 5.5% without glucose-lowering drugs. Not everyone, and not right away. But it is achievable.
My approach is based on evidence-based medicine: eating with the glycemic load in mind, physical activity after meals, working on insulin resistance and reducing visceral fat. No magic — only mechanisms that work and are confirmed by research.
I run the National Diabetes Marathon, where I teach patients to cook traditional Uzbek dishes so that their blood sugar doesn't spike. Because a diabetes diet doesn't mean giving up samsa and shurpa forever. It means knowing how to cook them right.
Testosterone and andropause in men
I hold a dedicated clinic for men aged 35–65. Fatigue that gets blamed on age. Low libido that gets put down to stress. Weight gain, irritability, weakness — all of this may be the result of androgen deficiency, not "just life".
I never prescribe therapy without a full hormonal work-up. Never. Because I have seen the consequences when it was done without diagnosis. Before treating, you have to understand the cause.
On my YouTube channel "Testosteron maktabi" (Testosterone School) I take apart myths about testosterone, explain the mechanisms and talk about real studies. No ads, and no attempt to turn you into a supplement buyer.
Obesity and metabolic syndrome
Obesity is not a lack of willpower. It is an endocrine disease. I work with patients who tried to lose weight on their own for years and couldn't — not because they were lazy, but because they were treating the symptom, not the cause.
I use treatment protocols based on international standards.
Prediabetes
If you have prediabetes, this is the best time to see me. At this stage everything is still reversible. According to research, the right lifestyle lowers the risk of progressing to diabetes by 58%.
Can type 2 diabetes be cured?
The word "cure" has to be used carefully in medicine. But remission of type 2 diabetes — HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin) below 5.5% without medication — is genuinely achievable. That is exactly what I specialize in.
Can testosterone be raised without injections?
It depends on the cause and the degree of the deficiency. In some cases, yes. But diagnosis comes first. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all recipes. I believe in lab tests and in understanding the cause.
What diet is right for type 2 diabetes?
One you can stick to for the rest of your life. Not a strict one-month diet after which everything comes back. It is eating with a low glycemic load and the right balance of protein, fat and carbohydrates. At the marathon I show how to adapt traditional Uzbek dishes to it.
How do I know if I have low testosterone?
Get tested. Symptoms like fatigue, low libido and irritability can have many causes. To talk about testosterone, you need numbers, not feelings.
Is it possible to lose weight with diabetes?
Not only possible — necessary. In type 2 diabetes, losing 10–15% of body weight can by itself lead to remission in some cases. This was shown in the DiRECT, Newcastle and CMNT studies. My work with patients is built on exactly this principle.
Do you see patients from other cities and countries?
Yes. Patients come to me from other regions of Uzbekistan, from Kazakhstan and from Russia.
